AIR cadets and staff (pictured above) from both 2443 Sqn Okehampton and 2312 Sqn Tavistock attended their annual camp at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland recently.

All experienced life on a fast jet base visiting 1 and 6 squadrons who fly the Typhoon, the current front line fighter jet of the Royal Air Force and the remaining Tornado GR4 Squadron based in Scotland.

Sqn Ldr Phil Newcombe, the camp CMDT, said: ‘All the cadets worked well in all activities given as challenges and opportunities throughout the week.’

Visits to all sections on the base were well received with the opportunity to try the night vision goggles the pilots currently wear and to use the parachute simulator in the survival equipment section. Additionally, a visit to Kinloss Barracks allowed all to see the ARCC Centre which controls the UK’s Search and Rescue co-ordination and the RAF’s Fire Fighting section.

A cruise down the Caledonian Canal and into Loch Ness was undertaken, followed by a visit to Inverness for both swimming and shopping.

The cadets are now in training in readiness for the next Wing event at Okehampton Army Camp in early September, challenging all in drill, navigation, first aid and leadership competitions.
