THE hit musical Moulin Rouge is the inspiration for an upcoming themed ball and silent auction being held near Hatherleigh on Saturday, September 1.

The event, organised by the Hatherleigh Pink Ladies, is raising funds for Get Changed Theatre Company and Cancer Research UK at Fishleigh Farm. Among the highlights will be the silent auction, which promises to be full of unique and quirky lots.

Among the items donated for the auction are a pair of tickets to see the Moulin Rouge show in Paris, a tour of the Houses of Parliament for six people, a French manicure session, a week's holiday in an apartment in Tobago, and a tour of a nuclear submarine.

Fifty per cent of proceeds from the evening will go to Get Changed Theatre Company, an organisation based in Okehampton which provides services for adults with learning disabilities through the medium of performing arts. The company helps participants develop confidence while promoting social inclusion and empowering them to realise their full potential in life.
