BRING in the New Year with a swing is the motto for a couple from Okehampton this year.
Each year, Tracey and Jason Sandford venture to other parts of the country to celebrate New Year's Eve — but this year, they feel it is time to enjoy the milestone in their home town.
Tracey said she loved New Year's Eve and the excitement the night brought, but that Okehampton never seemed to celebrate the night.
So both Tracey and Jason have organised a special night in the town for everyone to enjoy.
The New Year's Eve ball will be held on Wednesday, December 31 from 8pm to 2am on the grounds of Simmons Park, Okehampton.
Everyone, whether from Okehampton or the surrounding villages, has been invited to the night, which will also see a tribute to Freddie Mercury, followed by a dance 'til dawn, all within a heated marquee at Simmons Park's first-ever ball.
Tracey said: 'Every year we always go away for New Year's Eve, like to Bath, as we feel nothing ever happens here, and everyone else always says the same.
'So we thought we should make something happen in Okehampton on New Year's Eve. We thought about this idea in March this year and we thought "well, if we don't do it now we will regret it".
'There will be a big marquee which will be heated, with carpets and chandeliers, plus security.
'I hope people will attend and enjoy the evening and the things we have planned for the night.
'We have 400 tickets available and we are hoping it will be well supported.'
Tracey advises everyone to book early as before December 23, tickets cost £25. They will be £27 thereafter. The event is for advance tickets only, as none will be available on the door.
Tickets can be purchased from E-clips and Donald's Menswear, or by calling 07794 649554 or emailing [email protected]">[email protected]
