A NEW information pack has been released to help people in Okehampton and surrounding area who are looking for work or facing redundancy.
It follows the Okehampton Works project led by Devon County Council and supported by JobCentre Plus. The county council has organised a series of events to promote the information pack over the next fortnight.
The new pack, 'Seeking Work: Information for Residents of Okehampton and Surrounding Areas', is part of a Government funded project and gives information on the Okehampton Works initiative and the help available.
This includes what to do if you find yourself being made redundant, seeking work, or searching out careers information, advice or guidance and training available.
There is also advice for those considering self-employment, and help with money matters such as sources of financial support. This information is available online at http://www.devon.gov.uk/okehampton-works">www.devon.gov.uk/okehampton-works
There will also be posters and information promoting the sources of help and support in the surrounding towns and villages.
Since last year, a number of schemes have begun to try and improve prospects for Okehampton, including the Okehampton Works week held last September, the development of the 'Rural Growth Network' pilot bid and the purchase of 36 acres of land on the edge of town for business use by the county council and West Devon Borough Council.
Cabinet member for economy, enterprise and employment, Will Mumford, said: 'Much has already been achieved in Okehampton, however it is important we keep up momentum.
'We would like to encourage as many people as possible, including business owners and community groups to get involved with the Okehampton Works project, to come along to these events and spread the word about the information pack.'
The following events will explain the information packs to front line staff, including social workers and police and those who work with children and families. All events are free.
