FAMILIES and groups for under 5s are helping to make a real difference to other children by taking part in the Barnardo's Big Toddle 2010.

The groups are taking part in a short sponsored walk, to raise money for Barnardo's Early Years work with disadvantaged and vulnerable under 5s in local projects throughout the UK.

It also includes services for children with physical and learning disabilities, autism and behavioural problems.

This year, for the first time ever, the children's charity is introducing a fancy dress theme of swashbuckling pirates to the Big Toddle.

The sponsored walk will be opened by MP for Central Devon Mel Stride, and will be followed by a pirates picnic. Everyone who takes part will receive a medal, sticker and certificate.

Local services co-ordinator for Barnardo's Ruth Bushell, who is helping to organise the toddle, said: 'We welcome all families with under 5s and all early years groups to join us for a fun morning.

'Any local groups joining us can keep 25 per cent of the sponsorship they raise for their own funds.'

The walk will take place at 10.30am on Friday, June 11 in Simmons Park.
