THE president for the 2015 Okehampton Show was chosen at the Okehampton and District Agricultural Association's annual meeting on February 26.

Mark Wooldridge was elected president, with Simon Whattler president elect for 2015. John Hockridge retains his position as chairman, with Mark Wooldridge acting as vice chairman.

The 2014 accounts were presented to the executive committee for approval.

The 2014 show took place on August 14, with a rather wet start affecting visitor numbers on the day considerably. The weather meant numbers were down on 2013, which had produced record gate numbers.

The 108th Okehampton Show will take place on Thursday, August 13.

It remains an important annual event for those who work and live in the area as well as for tourists who enjoy visiting this rural part of England. It is a showcase for the best of agricultural and rural life and a fantastic day out for all the family.

As a charity the Okehampton and District Agricultural Association awards grants to local students who go on to study agriculture and horticulture. It is considered vital that youngsters are encouraged to work within the farming industry and continue to manage the countryside. If anyone is interested in finding out whether they are eligible for a grant they should contact the secretary.
