THE team at a Northlew vineyard will be raising a glass to their latest triumph at a regional competition. Eastcott Vineyard, run by Hilary and Richard Waller, entered some of their wines into the South West Vineyard Association Annual Competition. The judging panel included several Masters of Wine and other key people associated with the South West wine industry. The vineyard picked up the Stewards' Trophy for the best rose wine from a commercial vineyard, with their 'Two Moors Rose 2013'. The vineyard also won a bronze medal for its 2013 dry white. Hilary Waller said: 'This trophy has been won for the last three years by Sharpham Vineyard, from South Devon. So we are both very excited to receive this award for the first time and to be judged the best by our peers in the region. 'The rose wine was made from a blend of lovely Rondo and Seyval Blanc grapes, both of which varieties are grown at Eastcott. It has a light and delicate aromatic nose, a fine balance and delicious red berry and citrus fruit flavours.' With the best summer in years, the vineyard's harvest looks to be very good this year. Hilary and Richard are on the lookout for volunteer pickers.
