THIS week residents of North Tawton celebrated National Wool Week by engaging in a whole host of family-fun activities.

After the uprising of North Tawton’s Yarnageddon, the town has been sent into a wooly frenzy, and many local people have been eager to get in on the action.

The events during Wool Week, which runs until September 4, have been organised by community knitting group North Tawton Yarnageddon 2016.

The birth of Yarnageddon occurred earlier this summer when local woman Jo MacDonald, along with her family, began yarn bombing the streets of North Tawton in order to add some colour and joy to the town.

Yarn bombing is a form of street art that employs fun and colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn and it is the latest phenomenon to have swept across the town.

This bank holiday was the launch of Family Wool in the Park Day, which saw people of all ages turn out for the event and enjoy a fun-packed day of various wool-inspired activities.

Other events held this week included two wool craft club day held at the North Tawton Youth and Community Centre, as well as a rock music workshop for children aged 11 and older.

An upcoming event called the The Big Weave will take place later this afternoon (September 1) at 4pm, there will also be a second session of the rock musical workshop.

Tomorrow (Friday), a World Wide Spin Public Day will take place at the centre with The Mad Knitters Tea Party kicking off at 3pm until 6pm.

To round off the week a craft wool fair will be held in the North Tawton Town Hall on Saturday, September 3.

The fair will include lots of yarn displays, community knitted creations, and also feature music and magic.
