I WONDER how many of Tavistock’s residents realise that the council is now applying to make the top two floors of Brook Street Car Park into £2 all day? I have objected to this as by changing Brook Street Car Park as well will mean there is not nearly enough short stay car parking available.

Russell Street Car Park is not very big. The car parks outside the Old Court House and in Bank Square are even smaller and only allow one hour’s parking. The Wharf Car Park is not very convenient for the town centre. The bus station car park is also very small.

I feel that since the Bedford and Abbey Rise car parks have been made into £2 all day parking it has become much more difficult, if not impossible, to park in Tavistock at all unless you are parked by 10.20am at the latest.

Although I live close enough to walk into town, I am not able to carry shopping back up the hill and if I take a taxi, it costs me £4.

I have lived in Tavistock since 1976 and parking has always been possible until the latest idea to create more footfall and make the car parks cheaper. I do not believe there is more footfall as if you cannot park your car then you have to go elsewhere.
