Devon U14s plate final
Oke Argyle U14s 3
Exeter Panthers U14s 1
OKEHAMPTON ended another fine season by capturing some well deserved silverware in this keenly contested final at Lord's Meadow.
Argyle fell behind in the 12th minute and it took a fine save from goalkeeper Callum Goodwin to stop them falling further behind when the Panther forward was through on a one-on-one. The game changed following a surging run from Josh Stanbury that caused panic in the Panthers' defence and although the attack was stifled, it seemed to galvanise Argyle into life. Argyle's Ross Voaden and Aaron Dearing pressurising Exeter's defence but clear-cut chances were minimal and the Panthers managed to hold out to the interval.
The second half was a totally different affair as Okehampton dominated territory and possession. Conor Stevens and Tallon Burns replaced Aaron Dearing and Bas Loram and the reshuffled Argyle found their passing and moving game and started to create chance after chance. Midway through the half that they restored parity when Josh Stanbury got to a through ball ahead of the Panthers' keeper and the ball broke to the impressive Fogerty, who calmly side-footed in to the empty net.
Okehampton were now on the front foot and it was no surprise when they eventually took the lead with 12 minutes remaining after Ben Barkwill fired in from the edge of the area.
Argyle's back three of Ryan Gross, Conor Stevens and captain, Lewis Taylor were in complete control and aided by another fine display from Tom Stanbury were never in any trouble.
Argyle made the game safe eight minutes from time when Josh Stanbury steered home. This allowed them to enjoy the final moments as they kept the ball well, knocking it about with some confidence as Ben Bickle, Burns, Barkwill and Fogerty controlled play. Fogerty was replaced by Liam Mitchell having run himself into the ground.
An impressive second half display in which the whole side showed tremendous strength and character to seal the trophy. Players of the match for Argyle were Ryan Gross and Josh Stanbury.
