OKEHAMPTON Carnival Committee is pleased to announce that this year’s decorated shop window competition theme as well as the carnival royalty line-up.

This year Lauren Saunders will be crowned carnival queen with Jessica Dell as carnival princess and Joshua Penna as carnival prince.

Joshua, who will also celebrate his fifth birthday on the day of the carnival, is looking forward to wearing his crown and boarding the royal carnival float.

Okehampton Carnival secretary Karen Penna said: ‘The carnival prince and princess will be crowned by the town mayor at 3pm and will lead the children’s procession.

‘Lauren will be crowned later in the day at 7pm, which will mark the start of the main procession through the town.’

This year’s carnival will take place on October 15 and will see a whole host of colourful floats and fancy-dress mayhem.

Carnival organisers have announced that the annual decorated shop window competition will have a pantomime theme.

Karen added: ‘There will be a shield awarded to the best decorated shop window, as well as one awarded to the best charity shop decorated window.

‘The theme this year is pantomime and even the carnival organiser will be getting involved in the panto fancy dress!’
