North Okes U16s 61
South Molton U16s 0
OKEHAMPTON started strong against an understrength South Molton side.
Connor Vincent darted over in the corner for the first try to set the tempo. It was a game dominated by Okes forwards which lead to good, flowing rugby.
Kieran Lee had an excellent start for Oke culminating in a try. The coach shuffled players around to allow those who had little game time last week a good run out.
Luke Simmons was reliable at fly half kicking eight out of nine conversions, some from out wide.
Tries were also scored by Jack Williams, Calum Pillivant, Giles Heard, Andrew Craddock, Kyler Burns, Josh Bickley and Billy Searle.
Crediton U14s 5
Tavistock U14s 27
A STRONG wind tested both teams, but Tavistock dominated the first half with good handling and an attacking run from Ollie Woods setting Charlie Fethney up for the first try after ten minutes.
Ollie crossed the try line himself a few minutes later, then a slick switch between Charlie and James Watts enabled the ball to be fed out to Bert Rodgers for a third try in the far corner.
Crediton fought back and were only held at bay by some strong tackling and an excellent clearance down the touchline by Bert. Crediton defended successfully for the remainder of the half.
The match resumed on an adjacent pitch, where the first score went to Crediton. By this time both teams were tiring, with scrumming and rucking against the slope challenging everyones stamina. Tavistock efforts were rewarded by another try from Charlie, and a superb final try from Angus Hogg, converted against the wind by Morgan Warnett. This was a very promising start to the 2011 season.
Tavistock U13s 19
Crediton U13 0
TAVISTOCK U13s got their season off to a flying start with this convincing win.
Their forwards were dominant in the first period with Crediton struggling to get out of their own half.
Ben G at full back picked up a clearance kick on half way and made good ground; the forwards then cleared out the subsequent maul and Tavistock passed the ball through the hands of Alex, Bernie, Will P and Laurence in the back division before Ben M looped round from fly half to score in the corner.
Continued pressure at the ruck from Cameron, Chris, Rory, Steve and Will G allowed Theo to pick up and drive forward before passing to Callum who went over to score Tavistock's second try.
The second half was a more even battle with the game flowing from end to end. Powerful forward runs from Tavistock's Greg, Ben L, Richard and James allowed George to recycle the ball to the backs and Ethan cut back inside from centre to score under the posts. Tavistock converted two of their their tries and ended up comfortable 19-0 winners.
