RESIDENTS of Moretonhampstead and the surrounding area are being invited to an open day at the town's hospital to see what services could be provided at the new health and social care hub.

Visitors can also make suggestions on what services they would like to see offered at the hub, based at Moretonhampstead Hospital.

The event takes place at the hospital from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday, November 4 and is being organised by the local NHS health and social care community team.

The team, which includes a community matron, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and support workers, will also be showcasing how it supports people to live healthily and independently in their own homes.

Local residents can meet the team and discuss any health, wellbeing or fitness concerns they may have, relating to themselves or someone else. Visitors can also take a basic health check.

The team, part of the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust and Devon County Council, is playing a key role in the hospital's development into a health and social care hub.

Hilary Taylor, lead occupational therapist and event organiser, said: 'We will be introducing a number of new services and clinics over the coming weeks and months and the wellbeing open day offers an ideal opportunity for people to find out more and make their own suggestions.

'Visitors can also get a clearer picture of how we provide nursing, treatment and support for people with a range of health problems or conditions, helping them to remain independent in their own homes.

'In the near future, people in the Moretonhampstead area who have a non-urgent or long-term health condition which affects their quality of life or independence will be able to refer themselves to the team direct, without needing a referral from their GP.'

The 'Wellbeing Open Day' will include advice on falls, exercise, lifestyle, equipment, managing a disability and much more, as well as information about community transport with Moorcare.

Refreshments will be available.

The team plans to hold regular open days in the future, with the next date set for Thursday, December 4 from 10am to 1pm.
