Despite a cloudy and wet looking forecast, the Sticklepath Horseshoe Fell Race was run in relatively good conditions.
All 51 runners completed the race — however it was a tussle between a previous winner Okehampton Running Club's Andy Vallance and newcomer Adam Forrest of Dartmoor Runners. Andy narrowly beat Adam by seconds.
Andy finished in 1h 15m 30s, Adam came in at 1.15.34. Third place went to newcomer to the race Paul Payne 1.18.50 from Stockport Harriers, with ORC runner Gavin Punchard following at 1.19.39.
ORC sported eight runners this year with a good spread of results throughout the race.
Runners from Sticklepath and Okehampton results as follows; Andy Vallance 1.15.30; Gavin Punchard 1.19.39; Paul Crease 1.21.11; Tim Watson 1.34.20; Alistair Watt 1.35.51; Mervyn Rice 1.37.23; Greg Miller 1.44.59; Nick Watson 1.50.09; Ian Hayes 1.53.13; Marilyn Cooper 1.56.03
The first lady to cross the finish this year was Donna Claridge representing the Dark Peak Fell Runners together with her partner Greg Rimmer. Donna completed the race in 1.35.39.
The race committee shall be meeting to distribute funds to local charities and deserving causes though this year; we shall also be going further afield and look to support the Helwel Trust in South Africa. Thanks go to all our marshals and to Mrs Clark who without her support and use of her field the race would not be able to go ahead.
