THIS Saturday is carnival day in South Zeal and the village will be a hive of activity throughout the day.

A village show is being held between noon and 4pm in the Victory Hall, where there will be a wide variety of classes to enter and enjoy.

A street market is being held between 9am and 3pm and there will also be a few colourful characters to see, entering the scarecrow competition.

The crowning of the carnival royalty takes place at 6.45pm and then the procession will wind its way through the village at 7pm.

The day ends with a barn dance in the Victory Hall featuring Walter Shortage and the Hosepipe Band, starting at 8pm.
