PARISH councillors from Okehampton Hamlets will meet representatives of Devon County Council to discuss pedestrian safety on Exeter Road.
The councillors intend to discuss the lack of pavements on the railway bridge close to Fatherford Farm. Pavements lead up to the bridge on either side, but over the bridge itself pedestrians have to walk in the road if they wish to cross by foot.
A proper footbridge could be built over the railway line as part of the Opportunity Okehampton site agreement, with the construction of a footbridge part of the conditions of the sale of the land.
Hamlet councillors will request that the 30mph speed limit is extended outwards from the town centre to include the bridge to improve pedestrian safety until a more permanent solution is found.
