HARD work continues to go on behind the scenes at Okehampton Rugby Club on improving the club’s pitches.

The planning and fund raising project has been done by a team led by John Shields.

The club has enjoyed great success this season with the first team being winning the league and promotion.

Club secretary Dave Potter told the Times: ‘The project is now coming to fruition and work will start on the back pitch towards the middle or end of June. The installation of new drainage and a greatly improved playing surface should mean that the mudbaths of the past two or three years should be a thing of the past. The pitch should be available for use by the autumn.

‘With work on the front pitch planned for the summer of 2017 and the provision of additional pitches at Hilltown Cross the club is set for an exciting future both with these developments and on the field.

‘The support of the local community is vital to that future and we hope that people will turn out to support the club in the coming season.’
