RESIDENTS of Sticklepath are being asked to make their mark on one of the south west's top events.
The Sticklepath Fireshow has been a sensational annual event enjoyed by young and old alike since 1984, and is known for bringing the whole community out together, thrilling more than 3,000 people every year, some of whom come from all over the country.
Last year, the event was even named as one of the country's top 15 events of its kind by the national Times newspaper.
This year the outgoing organising committee is appealing to local people to come forward and make their own mark on this special event.
The annual meeting for the fireshow will be held on Monday March 14 at 7.30pm in the Bert Stead Room of Sticklepath Village Hall, and all are invited to come along and help secure the future of the event.
Janice Goodwin, chair of the Sticklepath Fireshow Committee, said: 'You might have had children who've taken part — you might well have been one of those children. You might want a new challenge, to meet new people or have a few hours to spare either monthly or nearer to the show.
'Do come along, as we desperately need new committee members this year as well as all sorts of volunteers.'
One 13-year-old participant in the 2010 show said: 'I enjoyed being in the fireshow because it is unique and there isn't anything else in the area that stimulates young people in the same way.'
An adult volunteer commented: 'I didn't really know anyone when I moved here, then that was sorted in one go.
'I found out that the cliché about getting involved in things brings you a far greater feeling of satisfaction than anything you can buy is entirely true. It's an absolutely amazing experience.'
