THE plight of those suffering with lymphoma will be eased thanks to those who took part in a charity golf day at Okehampton Golf Club last week.

The golf day on Friday, March 15 was organised by Cathy Carey.

A member of Okehampton Running Club, Cathy is taking part in this year's London Marathon to raise funds for the Lymphoma Association.

The golf day was another opportunity to raise funds for the charity.

'I decided to take part in the London Marathon in support of the Lymphoma Association after a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with lymphoma when she was just 30,' said Cathy.

'I would like to raise as much money as possible for the charity and am grateful for all the support I have received from the town, especially Specsavers.'

Among those keeping their eye on the ball were a team of four players from Specsavers.

The Okehampton store supported Cathy's fundraising efforts by sponsoring the event.

Louise Camies, practice manager at Specsavers said: 'As friends of Cathy's we want to support her cause and help out as much as possible with the golf day.

'We are not only sponsoring the event but my husband and friends are taking part so we wish them the best of luck on the day.'

The Lymphoma Association provides information and support to lymphatic cancer patients, their families, friends and carers.

Every year more than 14,000 new cases of lymphoma are identified in the UK alone, making it the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer, and the most common cancer in people under 30.
