HAVE you ever noticed that even when you’re right, you’re wrong? From the potential minefields of dating, relationships and divorce, to the simple things like booking a holiday or joining a pub-quiz team – nothing is ever as straightforward as it should be.

Jo Caulfield is determined to get things back on track . . . and she is coming to Calstock Arts on Sunday (March 12) to help do it.

Award-winning comedian Jo takes a humourous look at life’s potential traps, what can go wrong and how to deal with them (and in some cases, how to make everyone else suffer with you).

Jo is a familiar face on television. Amongst her many credits are appearances on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Mock the Week, The Stand-up Show, Have I Got News For You and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.

A little-known fact is that she has also been scriptwriter for all five seasons of Graham Norton’s shows, with whom she has also toured.

Innumerable radio appearances also includes four series of her own programmes. She was nominated for the funniest woman in the 2010 LAFTA Awards as well as best female stand-up in the Chortle Awards. She is certainly one of our most successful comedians.

A 90 minute laugh-out-loud (LOL) show, full of razor-sharp observations. Sharp, witty and insightful, Jo will make you think as much as she makes you laugh.

Her previous visits to Calstock Arts have been really enjoyed by the audience.

‘Caulfield makes even the most basic of audience banter sparkle. A real comedy natural.’ (Chortle)

‘Wonderfully sharp & bitchy.’ (Observer)

‘Sharp-witted, urban comedy that goes down a treat. Like a sociology textbook, but with jokes’ (The Times)

The Ronnie Jones Quartet will be appearing at Calstock Arts on Saturday (March 11). Well known on the South West circuit and in great demand, this Devon-based band has established a reputation for bringing accessible jazz to a wider audience.

Band leader Ronnie is a jazz drummer and percussionist, bringing sensitive and imaginative playing to the mix.

Ronnie was born hearing his percussionist father and early on joined in with tambourine to the likes of The Average White Band and Weather Report.

He started on his own drum kit when he was 11, moving on to jazz whilst at university. Since then he has played a wide range of gigs around the country.

Ronnie has now fulfilled his long-held ambition to form his own quartet. He’s joined by saxophonist Gary Bayley, a veteran of the British jazz scene and soloist with Mike Westbrook.

The Guardian described him as ‘an explosive improvising talent with a spit-fire technique’.

He has experience that ranges from jazz big bands to flautist in The Elizabethan Consort of Musicke — and that’s some range!

The line up also has Joss Kidd on guitar, whose background includes being taught by some big names in jazz including Nikki Iles, no stranger to Calstock, and Phil Robson, jazz musician of the year in 2009.

Bassist David George completes the line-up. His musical background includes a misspent youth playing rock drums before moving on to playing bass in big bands and smaller groups around the Westcountry.

They are all experienced players and have appeared everywhere from The Welsh Proms to the Teignmouth Jazz Festival and performed on radio and on a range of recordings.
