LATEcomers to Okehampton U3A's general election 'Question Time' meeting found themselves sitting on windowsills, as every seat was filled long before the meeting started last week.
Four of the declared prospective candidates for Central Devon were there to answer questions ranging from immigration, care provision for vulnerable people and budget cuts, to the behaviour of banks bailed out by the taxpayer, proportional representation and financial help for farmers.
Chairman of Okehampton U3A Eunice Goodwin said: 'Central Devon is a new constituency, so with no sitting member it's up for grabs.
'With five declared candidates we thought it important to organise an event which gave everyone the chance to meet the people wanting to represent us. It's a shame we didn't have time for all the questions submitted, but I believe everyone found it a useful event.'
