PUPILS from Kitty Tor class at Okehampton Primary School helped to organise a mini farmers' market to coincide with the school's PTFA Christmas fair.

The purpose of the farmers' market was to encourage our pupils and staff to support local food producers.  This is part of a year long project that will be presented for the Total Green School Award.

Other projects have included a 'pizza detective' day and the school is currently looking at how it can work with the town's chamber of trade to produce colourful flags made out of recycled materials. The flags would be used to brighten up the town on special occasions and will again be a way of showing support to local shops.

Stall holders included Hallwood Farm Fruit and Veg, Curworthy Cheese, Okehampton Community Garden, Okehampton Fairtrade Committee, Jenny Reynolds from Send a Cow and children from Kitty Tor, who made Send a Cow Christmas cards.

The Kitty Tor stall raised £28 for the charity and children are aiming to sell a few more cards in this last week of term to hit a £35 target to pay to educate an African child for a year.
