Okehampton Argyle 3

OKEHAMPTON put in a tremendous team performance to win this difficult away match and move themselves to the top of the league. Totnes have had close matches against several of the top sides and have a strong physical side but Argyle were never intimidated.

The first half was an even affair with both teams making some good openings but neither side could forge a lead.

For the last quarter of an hour before the break, Argyle began to take the initiative and looked the better side.

During this period of ascendancy, they came close when a shot from Luke Alden from inside the box was too hard for the home keeper to hold, but the Totnes defence scrambled the loose ball away from under the noses of the Argyle forwards.

There were also some good moves down the right where Steve Madge caused the home defence problems but Argyle just could not put the final touch to their excellent approach work.

Three minutes before the interval, a good move down the left started by Ben Williams saw Luke Alden beat his man on the edge of the box and fire in a cross which was superbly headed home by Will Hawking.

Okehampton Argyle looked the stronger side in the second half and were rewarded on 60 minutes when a lovely through ball from Steve Kinsey sent Ed Squire racing away. He used his strength to hold off the Totnes defender and take the ball round the home keeper before side footing the ball home to increase the Argyle lead.

Both sides played good football as the game continued, but with 25 minutes left Argyle were put under pressure when Steve Kinsey was sent off for a remark made to an opposing player.

Argyle's ten men handled this well and with 15 minutes left, Luke Alden was bundled over in the Totnes box and Matt Mortimer extended the Okes' lead with a well taken penalty.

As the game wound to its conclusion, Stuart Cann brought on all three players from his bench and they slotted perfectly into the team to ensure a notable victory.

This was a great team performance by Argyle who were rewarded for their tremendous hard work, team spirit and skill.
