The news Tom French brings in his report (Times, January 26) is a disappointment to many people. A new primary school in Okehampton is not a priority, town councillors have been told.

Does this really mean Devon County Council are happy for Okehampton residents to see the loss of the original proposed site for the school, and in its place to have yet more and more, pack them in tight, properties on the land to the east of the town?

The words 'short sighted' come to mind. and, even more so with hundreds of homes being built to try and attract new families to the area.

Strange, is it not, that such a decision is able to be made by people who are daily far away from the actual scene? 'Almost unbelievable' was the cry in the hall at a consultation exhibition held by Leander Developments Ltd at the Charter Hall on February 22.

Let's quickly resurrect that old fellow, Joe Common Sense, for the sake of the children!
