THE Okehampton and District Local History Society begins its new season with a talk by Dr Peter Marsden on Wednesday, May 14. Dr Marsden will be talking to the group about London and Exeter, two Roman and Saxon cities. An archaeologist, Fellow of the Society of Antiquities and writer of many books, Dr Marsden was formerly at the Museum of London, but has now retired to the Exeter area. He was a City of London archaeologist from the 1960s and did much research into the beginnings of London in Roman times, and into the later Saxon era. As well as many slides he will bring to the talk a number of historic objects. The meeting takes place on Wednesday, May 14, at the Ockment Centre at 7.30pm.
