THE president of Okehampton Rotary Club, Mike Macklin, handed over a cheque for £1,250 to Hazel Fox, headteacher at Okehampton Primary School, recently for the school's work towards the Green Flag Award for environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The school has gone a long way towards achieving this status since receiving the first or the two cheques from the Rotary Club in April. It is hoped it will achieve the Green Flag Award in 2010.

Frances Rickwood, who works at the school as a teaching assistant part-time and as eco- school coordinator for the remainder of the time, has masterminded the work. She is also involved in outreach work with the feeder primary schools to Okehampton College to help them achieve similar status.
