THE seventh Ruby Run half marathon is taking place next month and this year it will be in aid of the Children's Hospice South West.

The popular annual event will be held on Sunday, June 14 and is open to individuals and groups of six people to run the 13.1 miles.

Walkers are also welcome to take part and enjoy the beautiful scenery from Hatherleigh to Holsworthy.

Organiser of the event John Allen said: 'We always choose a local charity to benefit from the event.

'This year we chose to support Children's Hospice South West because the work they do supports so many families here in the South West.

'Two youth projects will also be benefiting from the event and so we hope to raise as much money as possible.'

Mr Allen expressed thanks to Waitrose for acting as their main sponsor this year.

'I would like to thank them and our other sponsors for supporting this event and for helping to raise vital funds for local charities.'

Children's Hospice South West is the only organisation in the region providing specialist respite care for children who are not expected to reach adulthood.

The charity cares for life limited children and their families, offering services and facilities in a homely environment.

Community fundraiser for Children's Hospice South West Ian Roome said: 'This looks set to be another huge success this year and we are delighted that the Ruby Run event organisers have chosen Children's Hospice South West to benefit from the proceeds of the run.

'I would like to wish all the runners good luck with their training and will see them at the finish line.'
