THE 2012 Ruby Run has proved to be a resounding success, as event organisers recently presented Cancer Research with a cheque for more than £2,000.

John Allen and Gary Bush from the Ruby Run committee, along with their 2012 sponsor Carol Barkwell from Made-Well, a community interest company based in Hatherleigh, presented Chris Babb from Cancer Research UK with a cheque for £2,072.

The 2012 Ruby Run started in Holsworthy and ended in Hatherleigh. It was the tenth year of this popular event, which attracts athletes from all over the South West. Each year organisers nominate a charity to receive a donation.

The event also attracts a large number of walkers, many of whom raise money for their own charities.

Chris Babb, Cancer Research UK's senior area volunteer manager for the South West said: 'We are absolutely delighted that funds raised from the Ruby Run have been donated to Cancer Research UK and we are very grateful for the support received.

'Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so.

'However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research.'

This year's run is on Sunday, June 9, starting in Hatherleigh and ending in Holsworthy. Registration forms can be downloaded from http://www.rubyrun.co.uk">www.rubyrun.co.uk
