OKEHAMPTON Running Club recently held its second awards evening.

This was well attended, the club having grown in two years to a membership of more than 80 members.

Meeting two nights a week with four groups there is something for all abilities from beginners to advanced. The awards were decided by the members themselves, each member having previously put forward nominations then voting on the night for the eventual winners.

The winners were: Club member of the year, Andy Vallance; highest male achiever, Roger Voaden; most improved male, Greg Miller; hardest male trainer, Mervyn Rice; highest female achiever, Marilyn Cooper; most improved female, equal Jayne West and Alison Holliday; hardest female trainer, equal Philippa Allom and Karen Vallance; coach of the year, Joanne Fletcher and club handicap race, Lisa Veale.

Certificates for the UKA awards were presented to members who achieved a qualifying time over any of six distances ranging from 1 mile to 26.2 miles.

Four members achieved all six awards during the year, Roger Voaden three diamond three gold, Marilyn Cooper six gold, Greg Miller six bronze and Philippa Allom six bronze.

Mervyn Rice, Jane Jackson, Tom Gill and George Speak each gained a diamond award and a good number of members gained four awards.
