CHILDREN at Halwill Primary School will benefit from an initiative to teach pupils about well-being and safety. Westward Housing Foundation, in conjunction with the Children's Education Foundation, has donated copies of the 'Will Powers Workbook', to Halwill Primary and schools in Torrington and Bideford. The schools use the book to take children on a journey looking at a range of issues, including smoking, alcohol use, drugs and how your body copes with these, bullying and for the preparation for their transition from primary school to secondary school. Nicola Parnell, Westward development officer, said: 'It is important that we invest in our local communities and we have a long history of working with our local schools. 'We hope that the children will benefit from this very informative teaching aid.' Westward recently built new homes in Halwill providing local people with 13 new family homes for rent and shared ownership. The rural development was built by Pearce Barnstaple and funded entirely by Westward, provided in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and Torridge District Council. Paul Raeburn, customer involvement manager, said: 'As a housing association, Westward works with a number of people who have problems with many of these issues which can have extremely detrimental effects on their lives. 'We think it is vitally important that young people are aware of the facts regarding all of these and are able to make informed decisions.'
