RETAILERS in Red Lion Yard were visited by Mel Stride MP at the launch of a series of sales to attract business.

Central Devon MP Mel Stride helped to launch the sales and praised the hard work put in by all traders in the area as well as their initiative in organising this event.

Mr Stride said: 'I'm very pleased to see shopkeepers here working together and increasing business for all as a result.

'Small shopping areas like this are vital in creating a strong sense of local community as well as in creating local jobs.'

Jade Oliver, who runs Boomerang, the toyshop in Red Lion Yard, said: 'I'd like to thank Mel for coming today and helping to publicise our businesses here. Business in Okehampton is on the up at the moment and I'm pleased to be a part of that.'

Shops in Okehampton recently participated in the highly successful Small Business Saturday, an event run nationally to promote independent businesses.
