YEAR 1 pupils at Okehampton Primary School went back in time recently to experience an entire school day as a Victorian child. Boys and girls were separated from lining up to complete cooking, sewing or manual tasks. The classrooms were transformed from colourful displays to plain walls and blackboards. No technology was used throughout the whole day including the use of smart boards, projectors or lights and the children had to write on chalkboard paper and draw with charcoal. In the afternoon the children partook in drilled lines for physical education, singing and arithmetic. The school expressed thanks to parents who dressed up their children in Victorian attire for the event. l Children and staff are pictured wearing Victorian costume.
