THE 1st South Zeal Scouts are on a big push to find cub leaders and funding to finish off their improved scout hut. Work is underway to improve the weekly meeting place of the group's beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers. The works will see an extension put onto the back of the hut, as well as new toilets, a new kitchen, shower facility, additional storage space, new lighting and an outdoor canopy for outdoor activities like outdoor cooking. The single door will also be replaced by a double door to allow disabled access. The project has received £10,000 of lottery funding, and additional grants from the Co-op and other sources, as well as the group's own fundraising efforts. The group is now collecting textile products for a jumble sale to help raise the last bit of money needed to finish off the project. Scout leader Nicki Glanville said: 'Funds for the last bit of the build are really needed. 'The jumble collection is ongoing and this will really help. Please help us by donating any dry textile jumble, including all kinds of adult and children's clothing, hats, shoes, belts, handbags, and household textiles including sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers, curtains and towels.' If you have anything to donate, put your jumble in strong bin liners and call 01837 840574, or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected] to arrange collection. The group is also desperate to find new cub leaders. If new leaders are not found soon, the cub pack will close in September. Training is provided and a reduced subscription rate is offered for leaders' children.
