STUDENTS from Shebbear College sounded note perfect as they performed in the Bideford Town Band’s 28th annual solo and quarter contest.

Six brass players from Shebbear College took part, led by the college brass specialist Mr Edwards. Albert and Joseph, from the prep school, played solos in the 10-12 year age class which had a total of 20 entries. Joseph played Memory from Cats and was awarded a special prize for the most promising player in the class.

Archie, Charlotte and Samuel played in the 13-15 year age class, with Samuel being awarded third prize, picking up a bronze medal. Samuel and Charlotte also played in the under 18 duet class and earned third place, a very good result as Charlotte was playing her eb horn, having moved from French horn for the day.

Albert and Joseph also played in this class, against players from all over the South West and south Wales.

Archie, Charlotte and Samuel were joined by Harrison to play in the under 18 years quartet class. The four players played very well and finished fourth.
