RATHER than spending your Saturday lunchtime in the old rub-a-dub-dub (pub) and having a pint of pig’s ear (beer), make your way down the frog and toad (road) to Tavistock’s Bedford Square and show us your boat race (face)!
It’s ‘Speak like a Cockney day’ organised by the Tavistock Musical Theatre Company (TMTC) on Saturday, August 20 but it’s not just the Cockney accents that could win prizes, it’s the best dressed as well!
The event will be held in Bedford Square from 10am until 2pm to get everyone in the swing for the theatre company’s new show Me and My Girl which is being staged in The Wharf this autumn.
So go along and do The Lambeth Walk and just enjoy yourselves.
Last year TMTC held a ‘Talk like a pirate day’ to promote its Pirates of Penzance show and it was a great success.
TMTC member Pete Clement said there would be prizes for the best Pearly King and Queen and various age categories.
‘Me and My Girl is going to be a classic Cockney bonanza so we want people to really get in the spirit and come and have some fun speaking like Cockneys and dressing in traditional outfits from the tiny tots to the grandparents!’
The show will run from Tuesday, October 25 to Saturday, October 29.
