THE first of four seasonal sketching workshops is to take place at Castle Drogo this week. Participants will be able to create sketches full of character and colour inspired by the castle's woodland gardens on May 20, guided and encouraged by artist Celia Olsson. The day will start with a session of instruction, hints and tips before going outside to sketch and gather information, which can be used for a future painting or to keep as a diary. The other three seasonal art days are on July 8 and September 9, which will concentrate on a different aspect of castle grounds, and November 4, concentrating on producing a painting from sketches and notes gathered on any of the previous sketching days at Drogo, though there is no need to have attended these days. There may be a chance to sketch in the ground during the November session, dependent on weather. Each day runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm and is suitable for both beginners and experienced artists.
