On Sunday I was distraught when I lost my nine-year-old dog in Abbeyford Wood.
I had spent over an hour searching, when a kind lady horse rider used her mobile phone to contact my son to come to my assistance - and went on several long detours herself to look for Hamish.
Three hours later we still couldn't find him. A policewoman heard our calls and whistles, she had driven to the wood especially to tell us that Hamish had been found — on the main road at Follygate — by a Mrs Streeter, who had contacted the police. WPC Clegg had discovered my address from the dog's microchip and taken him to Riverside Kennels in Hatherleigh, but she had bothered to return to the woods to tell us the good news.
Apart from tremendous relief, I felt immense gratitude, for the kindness of everyone involved, who were prepared to go the extra mile (literally and metaphorically) to help a very relieved dog owner. Thank you all.
