Devon and Exeter division three

Exmouth Amateurs 0

SOUTH Zeal struggled to gain the advantage against Exmouth on Saturday and took 20 minutes to take the lead after several good saves by the home keeper and a few near misses kept the score at 0-0 .

The first goal, when it arrived, was a relief as Exmouth spurned several chances themselves to take the lead but there was no stopping Darren Prouse as he took a good through ball from Jamie Atherton and finished well from 12 yards.

The second came soon after when Tom Reilly put Darren Gilbert through who finished with a super strike that flew into the top right hand corner.

The home side pushed on in the second half, but with Lee Gilbert having yet another tremendous game for South Zeal at the heart of their defence, they struggled to create any clear cut chances and with the visitors always dangerous on the break Darren Prouse put them 3-0 up when he converted a pass from Redd Cann after good work by Phil Evans. The game was now safe and the visitors should have scored a hatful in the final 15 minutes but a could only muster one more goal as Darren Gilbert scored his second from close range to give South Zeal a 4-0 win.

Normally in goal for the past two seasons Reg Wonnacott replaced Lee Gilbert with 10 minutes left and showed that he was still a force to be reckoned with.
