A FORMER Okehampton College student has clinched a top prize as the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust awarded 14 members of staff and teams for their outstanding achievements.
Amy Tyler, a student nurse on the Wyre Forest Community Unit at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, has won the trust's Student of the Year award. She was nominated for consistently delivering a very high standard of nursing care to patients and their families, and her uplifting pride in her work.
Amy said: 'Winning this award proves that hard work pays off and will help set me on a good road for the next two years. It also shows how good the university is at teaching us all.'
Amy is currently in her second year of her adult nursing degree at the University of Worcester. She worked for several years as a health care assistant on the Yeo Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital before starting her nursing degree in 2012.
The awards recognise the achievements of NHS nurses, doctors and support staff. Former BBC Apprentice Nick Holzherr was on hand to congratulate winners and present them with their awards alongside trust chairman Harry Turner.
Mr Turner said: 'It's a great honour to present these awards each year. Reading through the hordes of nominations served as a reminder of why I come to work every day.
'Evenings like this prove to remind us of the truly amazing work that goes on around the clock to ensure that our patients receive a service from their local hospital that they, and we, should be very proud of.'
