FOUR lucky students from Okehampton College will be at the Devon County Show this weekend to take part in a collaborative media project — including doing some work for the Times. Year 10 students Hannah Kettles and Ella Barber, and Year 9 students Joel Baldwin and Jordan Rolfe have been selected to take part in a digital media project in the Babcock LDP marquee at this year's Devon County Show. Along with a team of four students from South Dartmoor Community College, the group will be producing video reports about the show and publishing them online from their studio in the marquee tent. As part of the project, students will be creating a 'Happy' video, involving exhibitors and visitors alike dancing to the hit pop song Happy by Pharrell Williams, and editing it over the course of the three days. As part of the project, the Okehampton College team will be writing pieces for the Times, to be included in next week's spread on the events of the show. They will be working in pairs to produce two articles for the paper, with Jordan and Joel reporting from the show food tent, while Hannah and Ella will report from the goat section. Along with the rest of the team, Hannah Kettles is looking forward to her involvement in the show. She said: 'I find journalism interesting. I like the idea of it, and I love writing. 'We are all looking forward to the show and the project.' Times reporter Tom French met with the students to brief them on the task at hand. He said: 'As a small newspaper, we love to help people get work experience but struggle to accommodate youngsters who want to come in to our offices and see the day-to-day running of a local newspaper. 'This is a great opportunity for these four students to go out for themselves and get a real taste of what journalism is about — exploring new situations and meeting new people, thinking on your feet and testing yourself. 'They seem an enthusiastic and intelligent bunch, and I am sure they will do the college proud with their video and written coverage of the event.' Organiser Tim Arnold said: 'This is a great opportunity for the students to experience what it's like working as journalists, reporting on real-life situations and working to real deadlines. It's also a great opportunity for visitors to the Devon County Show to see some of the exciting ways digital media is being used in the classroom.'
