OKEHAMPTON College hosted a training day for school governors from North and West Devon last week.
A total of 55 governors from Okehampton, Holsworthy and Tavistock were given information regarding the Extended Schools Services, as well as being treated to a meal prepared by students from the college.
The event, organised by Alice McShane, saw presenters identify the core areas of the extended services. These included childcare, parent support, swift and easy access to specialist services such as speech therapy, mental health support, information availability and community use of the facilities available in schools.
Accessing these services was discussed and the Okehampton College website is currently being updated to give details of all areas of support.
Sue Carn, with her year 10 catering students, prepared the 'high tea' for the governors.
The students were involved in the planning of recipes as well as catering for those with dietary needs.
The students are studying and working towards their NVQ in catering and achieved excellent feedback from those attending the course.
