THE recent sunshine has led to lots of sporting activity — including the OCRA West Devon tennis finals and the OCRA West Devon rounders competition.
Year 3 and 4 pupils from the primary schools of St Peter’s, Tavistock, Okehampton, St Andrew’s, Horrabridge, Milton Abbot and Whitchurch took part in the tennis contest hosted by Tavistock Tennis Club and run by Rhys Dunford.
A total of 14 teams took part in the pool stages with St Andrew’s B, Horrabridge A, Tavistock and Okehampton emerging as winners of their respective pools. Okehampton beat St Andrew’s to reach the final while Tavistock and Horrabridge drew their semi-final. It was decided to have a three way round play-off between Okehampton, Tavistock and Horrabridge with Okehampton winning overall and gaining the gold medals, Tavistock and Horrabridge each receiving silver and St Andrew’s bronze.
Mhairi McCall of OCRA thanked Tavistock Tennis Club, Rhys Dunford for hosting and running the event and the Young Leaders of Tavistock College for umpiring the games.
Okehampton will represent West Devon in the county finals today (Thursday).
A number of local schools also took part in the rounders competition.
