OKEHAMPTON Town Council is in discussions with West Devon Borough Council to take charge of maintenance at several open spaces in the town.
Among the open spaces being discussed are the gardens at Fairplace Terrace, and the grassy area behind Lidl supermarket.
The maintenance of many of the areas would be minimal, with grass cutting the main maintenance cost.
The council is also in discussions to potentially take charge of the public toilets on Market Street and Fairplace Terrace.
Cllr Christine Marsh, chairman of the council's parks committee, said: 'It is about taking control and taking pride in our town.'
A decision on these areas is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
