THE weather was perfect for all three days of the 11th Son-Rise Cup football festival in Tavistock which saw teams from across the South West take part.

Day one saw around 2,500 people attend with hundreds of children and youth footballers. With flags flickering in the warm breeze and a kaleidoscope of kit colours it was a real spectacle! Everyone taking part was enjoying playing and watching football.

Day two was the ladies and men’s seven-a-side tournaments — both were very competitive with MAP ladies stealing the cup and in the men’s SOS Quick Cash won their matches with a very strong side — they were always going to be hard to beat.

When receiving the cup and sport voucher for £250, the team agreed to donate this to local disability football .

Day three was the heart of the event as Newton Soccability FC and Twyford Spartans took on the Tavi Specials.

There was a great atmosphere, lots of laughs and a wonderful time was had by all, said the organisers.

Newton Soccabilty won the Karen Bell cup and Tavi Specials won the Ability Counts cup.

The Son-Rise committee said this was one of the best events it had ever had and expressed thanks to the sponsors, volunteers and everyone who took part for making the event such a success.
