ALMOST £4,600 was presented to eight charities last Wednesday at the annual Teignton Fayre Awards presentation evening.
Around 40 guests, including both recipients and sponsors, attended the event held at the Drewe Arms in Drewsteignton.
A total £4,595 went to charities and local organisations, varying from £145 for Drewsteignton Playing Field to replace goal nets, to a grand total of £2,000 for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund.
Sam Peirce, Teignton Fayre secretary, said: 'It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and a good opportunity for sponsors to meet those whose organisations benefit from the proceeds of the fayre. It's also great to see funds awarded to so many good causes.'
While guests enjoyed mulled wine and nibbles, chair Adrian Bowden also presented cheques to: Cheriton Bishop Community Primary School, £500 towards computer and outdoor learning signs and play equipment; Hittisleigh Riding for the disabled, £250 to insure a new pony; Whiddon Down Village Hall, £200 for a new door for the outer store; 1st Drewsteignton and Chagford Scouts, £600 for various camping equipment; Drewsteignton Village Hall, £800 to decorate exterior of toilets and electrics testing (above left); and the women's section of the Royal British Legion, £100 in recognition of Nanny Smith's good work for the community (above centre).
