A FUN-filled family show took place in Princetown over the weekend as visitors descended on the old playing fields for the 28th Dartmoor Pony Moorland Show.

The show saw entrants for a variety of classes, including a special foal class this year to commemorate the 100th year since the birth of foundation stallion, The Leat. And the canine companions were not forgotten as there was a fun dog show on the day as well.

Supreme champion went to Andrew and Heidi Belcher’s 13-year-old mare Hisley Perfume with Liz Coates in reserve with the three-year-old filly Moortown Sweet Dreams who was also awarded the young stock championship.

The champion ridden pony was Northhall Manor Wild Wind owned by Margaret Rogers and Mike Lamb.

A huge class of mares and foals was won by the mare Wistmans Midsummer Song, owned and bred by Sue Aylesbury- Rogers, her foal was the winner of the foal class.

A special prize was awarded by local artist Virginia Pope to the foal whose birthday was nearest to that of the Leat, and this was won by the Jordan family.

Other winners were Moortown Statesman and Moortown Honeyman, both owned by Miranda Wallace, Trefursdon Hawks Tor was the best yearling for the Howarth Podesta family, Wistmans Sweet Cecily won the novice young stock and was also young handler winner for Harry Pearce.

Langworthy Nuthatch was awarded best pony from the Newtake Scheme for her breeder and owner Ken Edwards, with the most points trophy being taken home by the French family.
