BRATTON Clovelly residents Pat and Eric Vanstone were astounded by the popularity of their impromptu 'garden cream teas' fundraiser recently. Pat began making scones at 6am in preparation for the event held at their home, and people came from far and near to enjoy the Devon cream teas and to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. Pat said: 'I had no idea how popular it was going to be. 'I made over 200 scones in the end but still ran out. 'Thankfully friends also provided cake to keep everyone happy.' The couple raised more than £800, with donations still being received. Local police officer PC David Pickles stopped by to give his support, having seen the amount of vehicles that had thronged the small rural location. Extra crockery had to be drafted in from the local parish hall and friends and neighbours provided prizes for a well supported raffle. Asked if they would do it again next year, Pat said: 'Supporting breast cancer charities means a great deal to our family, so there is a strong possibility.'
