WIDELY acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, Martin Simpson will be appearing in South Zeal on September 13.

The event is part of the Church House Concert Series in South Tawton which has been running for five years now — but this time the bigger venue of the Victory Hall in South Zeal has been booked to cope with demand.

Martin Simpson is in high demand at the moment riding off the success of his new album 'Vagrant Stanzas' which has recently been in the top 50 album charts.

His interpretations of traditional songs are described as masterpieces of storytelling. His solo shows are said to be intense, eclectic, spellbinding and deeply moving.

He combines the diverse elements of British, Afro-American and old-time music.

He has been nominated 26 times in the 12 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards —more than any other performer — with nine consecutive years as nominee for Musician of The Year, which he has won twice.

In 2008 he had an incredible five nominations for 'Prodigal Son' and two wins.
