DISAPPOINTMENT over the withdrawal by Devon County Council of the 12.15pm 318 Okehampton town bus service from Fore Street to Leeze Park has been expressed by Okehampton Town Council.

The cut of the timetabled service followed the county council's transport budget being reduced by £286,000.

The town council wrote to the county council to express disappointment over the loss. It felt the county council had not addressed future town travel operations.

But in a reply to the town council a spokesman said: 'In this particular case we have worked closely with Carmel Coaches, who operate the service, to identify journeys that would cause the least amount of inconvenience to passengers. Whilst no cut is entirely without impact we hope that the effect on this route would be minimal.'
