THREE members of Okehampton Running Club competed in Chagford last week in a real uphill challenge.
The Chagford Challenge was put on by the Long Distance Walkers Association and open to runners as well. There were three distances — 16 miles, 21 miles with 3,782ft of ascent and 30 miles with 5000ft of ascent.
The route is a mixture of lanes, footpaths and beautiful open moorland. The runners and walkers have to find their own way to five checkpoints.
ORCs Lucy Skye and Karen Skye did the 21 mile distance in a time of 4 hours 50minutes and Philippa Allom did the 30 mile route in 7hrs 30hrs.
Philippa said: It was a euphoric moment to go through the 26.2 mile mark as I have never run more than a marathon before. We were lucky with the weather, it was a glorious day and I enjoyed the event hugely from start to finish.
'We had some stunning views on the moor — the route was very challenging with steep descents and muscle aching ascents but I felt strong to the finish. It was a beautifully organised event and I thank the LDWA for putting it on'.
